Dale "Pete" Lee Peterson

Dale Lee "Pete" Peterson died peacefully surrounded by his loving family of lung cancer on 05/05/09 in Caldwell. He was 57 years old. Pete was born on April 10,1952 in Nampa, ID to Kenneth and Betty Peterson . As a child he moved with his family to Idaho Falls where he went to school and graduated from Idaho Falls High in 1970. He joined the Navy after high school and was stationed on the USS Carpenter. He was honorably discharged in 1974. After the service, Pete returned to Nampa and started working with his Dad as an asbestos worker. He belonged to Local 69 Heat and Frost Insulators Union. He married Tanya Freitag in 1976 and had two children, Joshua and Katie. They later divorced. His kids remained the most important thing in his life and he was very proud of them both. Pete worked in many places and for many companies. For the last nine years he worked for Insulco in Meridian. Pete and his family would like to thank his former employer and fellow employees for all the kindness and everything they did for him in the last year of his life. He is survived by his children Josh Peterson and Katie Peterson, his parents Kenneth and Betty Peterson and his sisters Janet Emmons, Darlene (Stephen) Laws, and Roxanna Tucker. He also leaves nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Pete left his two loving dogs Nikki and Mac as well as his "pms'ing" cat. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his brother Bobby who was killed in Vietnam in 1967, a nephew Caleb Tucker and many aunts and uncles. Pete liked motorcycles, hunting, fishing and going to the family cabin in Donnelly. He was always a big prankster and liked to tease everyone, especially his nieces and nephews. He lived his life free and was a very independent person. He had his own idea of how his life and death would play out. He made all the decisions about how he would live and the arrangements for after he died. He fought the cancer with courage and determination and was his ornery teasing self to the end. He wanted to be cremated with no funeral. Family and friends are planning an informal get together to celebrate his life at the American Legion Hall in Caldwell at 2 pm on Sunday May 17th. The hall is located at 1112 Main st. in Caldwell, Idaho. His kids and nieces and nephews are planning a trip to the cabin to sit around the camp fire and tell stories about Chief Ornery like he instructed. We miss you and love you very much Pete!
