Dale Raney's obituary By: Brandon DeMatto Dale Raney passed away unexpectedly on February 20, 2020 in the Colorado Springs home of his daughter, JanDalyn DeMatto. He was 88 years old at the time of his death. Dale was born in Stanton County, Kansas to James and Helen Raney on January 28, 1932. He was the third eldest of four siblings, including an older brother, Arlyn Raney, and older sister Bertha Hoff, and a younger sister Shirley Burgett - all of which preceded him in death. Growing up, athletics played a pivotal role in his life. As a football, basketball, and baseball player, Dale excelled in as both an individual and a teammate. His charismatic and spry demeanor contributed to the development of deep, meaningful relationships with hi teammates, classmates, family, and friends. Most importantly of all, however, those traits led him to the introduction of his high school sweetheart and life-beacon, Janet Parsley. On July 14,1951, Dale married Janet and began the journey of 58 years of wedding bliss with the woman he adored. Shortly after, Dale and Janet moved to Spokane, Washington while Dale served his country in the United States Air Force. After his active duty service, Dale and Janet had a short stay in Golden, Colorado before moving back to Syracuse, where he opened up an electric shop and continued his military service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1960. While in Syracuse, Dale and Janet would eventually take over the family farm that was handed down to them by Dale's father, and raise their four children, Steve Raney, Kent Raney, JanDalyn DeMatto, and Tracy Smith. Dale would continue to work on the farm until 1982, when he decided to retire and build a house in Divide, Colorado. Dale and Janet would settle in that home until Janet's passing in 2009. Following Janet's death, Dale would move on final time to live with his daughter, JanDalyn, where he enjoyed the rest of his life living as 'Papa' to his five great- grandchildren, Brady DeMatto, Tucker DeMatto, Whyatt Gramsch, Olivya Gramsch, and Turner DeMatto. Dale is survived by his four children, Steve (Susan) Raney, Kent Raney, JanDalyn DeMatto, and Tracy (Dave) Smith. His nine grandchildren, Bryan DeMatto, Brittany (Shawwn) Gramsch, and Brandon (Beth) DeMatto, Michael Smith, Greg Smith, and Kara Smith (Jeffert Menzer). Dale is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sisters, his wife, his granddaughter Letitia Raney, his granddaughter Amanda Marie DeMatto, and his great-granddaughter Decker Bea DeMatto. Dale will reside in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado next to his loved and adored wife, Janet.
