Dan H. Amyx
March 19th, 1931 - October 3rd, 2013
Dan H. Amyx passed away to his heavenly home on October 3, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born March 19, 1931to Henry F. Amyx and Nora Way Amyx in Hawkins Co., TN. He moved to Kingsport in 1947 and resided here for 66 yrs. Mr. Amyx was married to Ruby Junell Powers Amyx on October 24, 1949. They would have been married 64 years this October 24, 2013. They attended Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was a painter by trade, working mostly with the Painter's Union Local #437. He never met a stranger, loved to go to the flea market and the Farmer's Market where he met a lot of good friends. Mr. Amyx was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anne Amyx Coomer and Louise Utley; brothers, Franklin H., John and Carl Amyx; grandson, Gregory Scott and a sons in law, Houston Harrison and Larry Hensley. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruby Junell Powers Amyx; daughters, Sandra (William Gale) Castle, Charlotte Hensley and Jacqueline (Jeffery) Housewright; six grandchildren, Sabra (Danny) Harrison, Nathan (Tina) Castle, Christopher S. (Melissa) Castle, Jason "Bo" (Brandy) Castle, Miranda (John) Thomas and Mirada (Trevor) Dunford; 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren all of the Kingsport area; sisters, Mrs. Margaret Dickenson of Coeburn, VA and Ms. Joyce Horne of Kingsport; brothers, Ray, Fred and Ralph all of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews and special friends Charles Callahan, Ronnie Busick, Clyde Busick, Cecil Fleming and Ray Bledsoe. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Friday, October 4, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport, TN. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Chris Ball and Rev. Brian Capps officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 5, 2013 at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 pm. Carter-Trent Funeral Home is serving the family of Dan H. Amyx.
