Dan Lucero, of Las Vegas, New Mexico went to be with our Lord on May 24, 2019. He was born on March 23, 1943 in Los Alamos, New Mexico (which is 12 miles north of Las Vegas) to Manuel G Lucero and Fedelina Padilla Lucero. He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel G Lucero and Fedelina Padilla Lucero, Paternal Grandparents Melecio Lucero and Eutemia Gonzales Lucero, maternal Grandparents Hilario Padilla and Albinita Perea Padilla, Father in Law Clemente Salinas Sr and Josefita Romo Salinas, Brother Erminio Lucero, Sister Clorinda Lucero Aragon, Sister in law Cleo Lucero, Brothers in law Richard Rudolph, Michael Pearl, and Manuel Aragon. Dan graduated from Robertson High School in 1963. After graduation, he was drafted by the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He worked at the Titanium Plant in Las Vegas, Nevada for a few years and then he got a job with the United States Postal Service in Henderson, Nevada. Eventually, he transferred to the postal service facility in Las Vegas, New Mexico, married his wife Peggy and retired after 32 years with the United States Postal Service. He was a lifetime Catholic and would always look forward to visiting the Santo Nino church in Los Alamos where his parents lived and where they were Mayordomos for many years. He was always so proud of his parents and loved his brothers and sisters and was very close to his sisters Velma and Gloria. Dan was an accomplished accordion player and enjoyed playing at parties, weddings and social gatherings. In his lifetime he performed at the New Mexico Highlands University annual Fiesta de la Hispanidad. Dan and his wife Peggy made a special trip to San Antonio Texas to meet Flaco Jimenez. He was also honored, with his band mates Amistad, in Albuquerque for a competition where they went on to win first place. A plaque with Dan's name is in slated, honoring New Mexico musicians, in the breezeway of Las Vegas' Old Town Plaza. He came from a family that loved and played music. Dan shared his musical talents with family and friends showing them how to play different instruments, he played the violin, guitar, piano but his favorite instrument was the accordion which he mastered. While with Amistad, they recorded several cd's. Along with his musical talents he enjoyed fishing, spending time with his wife Peggy and his dogs, Negrita and Misty, and visiting with his many friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and would always tell jokes and stories. Dan enjoyed working on his vehicles and was always willing to help others. He is survived by his loving wife Peggy Lucero of the family home in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Brothers John Lucero (Trudie) Henderson, Nevada, Paul Lucero (Mary) Los Alamos, New Mexico, sisters Madeline Rudolph (Richard), Velma Montano (Fred) Las Vegas, New Mexico, Gloria Pearl, Las Vegas, Nevada. Brothers in law Juan Salinas (Annette), Hilario Salinas Las Vegas, New Mexico, Sisters in law Martha Gallegos, Grants, New Mexico, Edwina Ortega, Mary Ann Padilla, Lupe Lucero (Jack), Helen Chavez (George), Albuquerque, New Mexico, Theresa Burgess (Brian), Bosque Farms, Diana Griego (Richard), Juanita Salinas, Villanueva, New Mexico, Loretta Gallegos (Frank), Las Vegas, New Mexico. Rosary devotional services will be held on June 4, 2019 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be on June 5, 2019 at 9:00 am, both at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Interment to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, with full military honors as afforded by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Patriot Riders. Serving as pallbearers are Benny Lucero, Carlos Vigil, Lloyd Tafoya, Juan Salinas, Daniel Gallegos and Benedict Salinas. His wife Peggy Lucero and family would like to thank his friends, the doctors, medical staff and everyone who was involved in taking care of Dan during his stay at the Juniper and Aspen units at Meadows Nursing Home. A special thank you to Dr David Elliott. We appreciate everyone who visited Dan and took him goodies that made him very happy.
