August 11th, 1940 - August 10th, 2024
Danforth Ewers Ball III, 83, of Annandale, VA, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, after a lengthy illness.
Dan was born on August 11, 1940, in Columbus, OH. He attended Bexley High School, received a B.S. from Case Institute of Technology, and an M.E.A. from George Washington University. He became a systems engineer for various government contractors and retired from The MITRE Corp. in 1998.
He was a beloved husband, father, and friend. His wit, humor, and lengthy pontifications will be missed by those who knew him. Dan was an avid boater from college to late in life. He was known as Kapt. Dan by many of his friends around the Chesapeake Bay. He and his wife, Sheila, loved cruising and traveling around the country in their motorhome.
Dan was predeceased by his parents, Danforth Ewers Ball Jr. and Katharine Greene Prentiss; his brother, Frederick Stanton Ball; his son, Danforth Scott Ball; and his granddaughter, Rebecca Denice Ball. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sheila Ball, Annandale, VA; son, Matt (Karen) Ball, Lacey's Spring, AL; daughter-in-law, Cathy Ball, Petal, MS; grandchildren, Kayleigh Ball, Dan Ball, Max Ball, Sophie Ball, and Stan Ball; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org), a non-profit organization that Dan was passionate about.
