1914-2011 Daniel Checchia died July 23 at the age of 97. He was born in Philadelphia and lived there most of his life. He came to Eugene in 2000 to be with his daughter. He served in the army during WWII and was stationed in England working in General Eisenhower?s HQ where he met such notables as General George Patton. In 1952 he went to work for the Dept. of Navy at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where he worked until retiring in 1977. He was an avid golfer and had three hole-in-one?s during his lifetime. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, and daughter, Carol Ann. He is survived by his daughter, Janis, son-in-law, Bruce Mulligan, grandchildren, Ann Marie, Joseph, and Patrick Hogarty. His warmth, smile and humor will be terribly missed. Memorial service and burial will be in Philadelphia.
