Daniel P. Childs

Daniel P. Childs, 56, of Gloversville, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010. He was born July 24, 1953 in Gloversville, the son of the late James P. and Shirley J. Fear Childs. Dan was employed as an activities coordinator by the New York State Mental Health Association since 1993. A true hippie at heart, Dan loved incense, candles, tie-dye and music. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and a Scrabble fanatic. He also liked to play cards, especially Pitch. He loved his stuffed animals and was especially fond of gorillas and monkeys. Most of all, he loved to take his sweetheart, Shelby, to lunch and to spend time with his family. Survivors include his girlfriend, Shelby Schumacher of Gloversville; two sons: Nicholas Childs of Canajoharie and Daniel J. Childs of St. James City, FL; one daughter, Loren Childs of Fonda; a stepson, Henry Bush Maria of Gloversville; two brothers: Timothy Childs Ellen of Delmar and Sean Childs of Johnstown; four sisters: Tracy Childs of Gloversville, Erin McManus Marty of Gloversville, Kathleen Childs Teresa Wands of Gloversville and Denise Orey Rick of Hilo, HI; two nephews: Adam Snell and Andrew McManus and one niece, Kimberly McManus. Family and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. R. W. Williams presiding. The family suggests that guests of the service wear tie-dyed clothing. Interment will be at Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
