Daniel Chester Kowalski

Daniel C. Kowalski passed away on November 16, 2012 in Santa Cruz from Acute Leukemia, at the age of 82. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dan was born June 1, 1930 in Michigan to Chester J. and Helen M. Kowalski and was raised in Wyandotte, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Physics for Hillsdale College. Dan had a long and varied career. He worked for Bendix Research Laboratories, Seagate Technology, Apple Computer, Optimize, Inc. and retired from Xerox PARC. Over the years, Dan wrote 13 technical papers and publications on the subject of Optics. In his free time, Dan enjoyed playing tennis and reading. He was a girls' soccer coach and a great fan of the 49ers. Dan is survived by his wife of 12 years, Rosemary Kowalski of Santa Cruz, son; Timothy Kowalski (Sue), daughters; Susan Rizzuto and Dori Borregard, sister; Dorothy Wesolowicz, in Michigan. Grandchildren; Erin McMahon (Mike) of South Carolina, Danielle Atkin (Ryan) of Colorado, Tricia Egan (Eric) of South Carolina, Michael Kowalski of Michigan, Karyn Kish (Joe) of Michigan, and Kortney Borregard of Michigan, nieces; Marisa Nasiadka and Margaret Massengill, nephews; David and Karl Wesolowicz and Mike McCloy, great-grandchildren; Susan, Samantha and Noah. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and his son, William Kowalski. A family gathering in Daniel's remembrance will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Trenton, Michigan.
