Lexington County – Daniel W Murray Jr, 81 died Friday, June 22 @ 10:10am, 2018 at the Lexington Medical Center Extended Care in Lexington SC, following a brief illness. He leaves behind his son Wesley A Murray (Michelle), his grandchildren Shannon C Murray and Savannah G Murray, his brothers James Archie Murray (Judy), Michael E Murray (Deborah), his sisters Marjorie Murray Royal (Tommy) and Nancy Carolyn Collins. He was preceded in death by his brother David Clarence Murray and his brother Austin Gibson Murray. He is also survived by a special aunt Louise Murray Turner, many nieces and nephews, and his special friend Jackie Crumpler. Born and raised in Rowland NC January 2, 1937, the son of Daniel W Murray Sr and Zelma Sneed Averett Murray. He attended Rowland, NC high school where he graduated in 1955. He was a lifelong resident of the Chapin and Lexington areas Daniel joined the Navy in 1955 and was discharged in 1959. After returning from the Navy Daniel made a career move by working at the Constan car wash on Gervais St in Columbia SC. After working for Constan for some time he opened his own car cleaning and detailing business next door to Constan car wash. He started the business in the early 70’s and called it Murray’s Auto Shop. He worked here for 25 years until retiring to the Harbor Heights community in Lexington SC. Daniel loved socializing, cooking, music, dancing, and cars. He was a loyal Gamecock fan and held season tickets for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing with friends. Daniel was also an active member of Mt Horeb United Methodist Church where he served as Usher and volunteer. A memorial service to be held Monday June 25, 2018 at 3:00pm at Mt Horeb Church 1205 Old Cherokee Rd, Lexington SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Mt Horeb United Methodist Church. Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington SC is handling the arrangements
