Daniel William Reich
September 13th, 1951 - October 7th, 2009
Mr. Daniel William Reich, 58, of Johnstown, NY formerly a resident of Fonda, NY passed away Wednesday evening October 7th, 2009 at the Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Gloversville, NY. Born in Mahopac, NY on September 13, 1951 a son of Joseph and Margaret Doherty Reich. He attended Carmel High School in Carmel New York and after moving to the Fonda area was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School. Mr. Reich was currently a Private Investigator for his business Reich Investigations in Johnstown, NY. He was a retired Police Investigator with the Gloversville Police Department. Mr. Reich formerly served as the Mayor of Fonda from 1992 to 2000. Dan was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda. He also was a member of the Lions Club and former member of the Knights of Columbus in Johnstown, NY. Mr. Reich was also active in many community and civic organizations and served on the New York Conference of Mayors. Dan thoroughly enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, family and friends and especially his passion for cooking. He married Mary Wallace Reich on November 25, 1972. In addition to his wife he is survived by his Mother, Margaret Doherty Reich of McAllen Texas. One son, Christopher Reich Jessica Bloomer. One daughter Jennifer Danny Sowle of Johnstown, NY. Six brothers, Joseph Reich Mary Lou of Woodbridge, VA, John Reich of Johnstown, NY, James Reich of Waynesville, NC, Thomas Reich Shannon of Padre Island, TX, William Reich of San Diego, CA and Christopher ReichAngela of Sparks, Nevada. Three sisters, Virginia Reich of McAllen TX, Rosemary Hildebrandt Robert of McAllen TX and Mary Frances Dalton Russ of Salem, Illinois. Three grandchildren, Hannah Meghan, Alixander Bryan and Christian Daniel Sowle all of Johnstown, NY. Brothers and sisters in law, George and Suzanne Wallace, Michael and Lynn Wallace, Carl and Barbara Tambasco, Kathleen and Philip Chizek, Patricia Wallace, Irene Carpenter, Cheryl Wallace and John Mitchell. Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by a son Bryan Patrick Reich on January 18, 1998 and his father, Joseph Reich on September 19, 1999. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday October 12, 2009 at 11:00A.M. at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Broadway, Fonda, NY with Fr. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv. as celebrant and Fr. Kenneth Swain as con-celebrant. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday October 11th, 2009 from 1:00 to 5:00P.M. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078. or to St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068.
