Daniel Frederick Slovick
January 27th, 1942 - October 13th, 2023
Daniel Frederick Slovick , 81 of Blythewood, South Carolina passed away at Prisma Richland Memorial Hospital on Friday, October 13, 2023 after a brief and sudden illness. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 18 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 19 at 10:00 am at Thompson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC at 12:00pm. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts Mr. Slovick served in the Army 1st Cavalry as a cook during the Vietnam War Era. He was an expert rifleman and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Slovick was also a member of the American Legion Richland Post 6. He later received his Associate’s Degree from Midlands Technical College and worked as a welder for Owens Steel Company. He was also employed for many years by US Silica and later worked for the SC Department of Transportation. Mr. Slovick loved music and played the piano, organ and guitar. In his early years he was a member of a local band in Worcester, Massachusetts. Mr. Slovick was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Margaret R. Slovick; his parents Felix J. Slovick and Mary Weeks Slovick; sisters Marilyn Laine and Martha Slovick. Mr. Slovick had three children, Lisa Ann, Daniel and Robert Slovick of Worcester, Massachusetts by his first wife Diane Gregor Slovick. In addition, he is survived by his step-daughters Gwendolyn R. Vaught (Mike) of West Columbia, SC; Kim Bullock (Mark) of Leesville, SC and Claudette R. King (Robbie) of Lexington, SC. Mr. Slovick is also survived by step-grandchildren Dr. Marcus Vaught (Stephanie), Mrs. Heather Catoe (Matt), Mr. Hunter Vaught (Sarah), Mrs. Macy Turner (Travis), Mr. William Cory King all of Lexington, SC; Mr. James Ryan King of Greenville, SC and several great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Richland Post 6.
