Daniela (Danica) Achin Obituary Daniela (Danica) Regina Achin, age 96, died peacefully on December 26, 2016 at her home in Bethesda, MD. She passed away from natural causes. Mrs. Achin was born on November 15, 1920 in Puconci, Slovenia (Yugoslavia), the daughter of Marko and Regina Lavrenčič. During the 1940s, Mrs. Achin lived in Trieste, Italy where she studied music and later became the Prima Donna of Yugoslavia. While there, she met and married her former husband, Miloš Achin. Together they came to the United States on January 7, 1950, on the ocean liner, Saturnia, eventually settling in Washington, DC. When she came to the United States, she continued to pursue her career in the arts until transitioning into accounts administration at The American University where she worked for nearly twenty years. She was also a devoted mother and raised two children. She was keenly interested in the culinary arts, culture, current affairs, and languages, herself a speaker of five. She is survived by her children, Vuka Tugberk (Rasim) and Kosta Achin; her three grandchildren, Alisa Tugberk, Aylin Amore, and Suzan Weigert; four great-grandchildren, Adrian Macedo, Scarlett Amore, John Amore, and Evren Weigert. There was a private service at St. Luke’s Serbian Orthodox Church, followed by a graveside service at Bethel Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia.
