Daphene Scott Harden Calhoun

Burthel Daphene Scott, aged 93, died on April 29, 2018, in Kingsport, TN. She was born in Gurdon, AR, to Archie Lee (Brown) and Freddie Thomas Scott on December 3, 1924. She was the second oldest of 9 children. Daphene lovingly was known as “Duck” to family, would tackle any endeavor from gravel truck counter, restaurant owner, accomplished seamstress, executive secretary, salesperson and much-loved housemother at LSU for 20 years. She has lived in Kingsport, TN for the past 9 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Viola Horne, Lois McNeely and Loretta Perry. Daphene is survived by her daughters, Julia (Harden) & husband Dan Sellari, Suzanne (Harden) Chiles, Deborah (Harden) Chapman. “Grandy” was her chosen name to four grandchildren, Jessica, Cary, Natalie and Tre & wife Lauren; six great-grandchildren, Henry, Olive, Kinsley, Grayson, Mary Frances and Gavin; siblings, Juanelle Williams, Thomasene Bennett, Bobbie Sue Franklin, Thomas Scott and Janice Kent; along with many nieces and nephew. Step-granddaughter, Carin Chiles; step-grandson, John P. Chiles & wife Jessica; step great-grandson, Parhan Chiles. Daphene had many helping hands in her later years who lovingly cared for her. They are remembered as dear friends, Christina, Ana, Pauline, Nancy and Dana. Duck will be remembered as loving, kind, feisty and the person any angel would need stranded on a cloud. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas, May 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A gathering of friends will follow the funeral services.
