Darcel Jo Bryant
February 14th, 1962 - February 19th, 2014
Obituary Darcy Bryant Feb 14, 1962 Feb 19, 2014 Darcy Jo (Rue) Bryant was born in Cresco, Iowa on Valentines Day 1962 to George and Darlene (Frankhauser) Rue. The family moved to Minneapolis, MN when Darcy was still a baby, then to the suburb of Bloomington, MN where her two younger brothers were born. The oldest of 3 siblings, Darcy was often helping with the 2 younger boys, Brian and Scott. Now with families of their own, Brian and Scott often mention how much they looked up to and admired their older sister. Especially on those dark nights alone when Darcy reassured her younger brothers that they were safe, or that it was just a movie, or that mom and dad would be home soon. Those early years in Minnesota forged a lifetime of caring and love and inner strength that carried Darcy for the rest of her life and her family and friends could see it in everything she did. Sam saw it in her as a brand new 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force and knew that she would someday be his bride. Darcy graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota in 1985 with an Electrical Engineering Degree and was immediately sworn in as a new 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force by her Uncle, Maj Bill Frankhauser. Her first duty assignment was at Los Angeles Air Force Base, CA. When Darcy arrived at Los Angeles Air Force Base, CA to start her career she met another brand new 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force, Sam Bryant, and they became friends. Over the next 2 years the friendship grew and they fell in love and were married in July 1987. In June of 1989, Captain Sam Bryant was asked to take a new assignment in Ohio, and Captain Darcy Bryant decided to leave the military service and begin raising their family as a new mom. And 5 months later their first daughter was born, Sarah. After 18 months in Ohio, the family was reassigned to Colorado Springs, CO and Captain Sam Bryant was assigned to Headquarters Air Force Space Command. The family moved into their new home in Colorado Springs and have made a happy family home setting for the next 23 years. Two more daughters were brought into this loving home, Stephanie and Samantha, and Sam retired from the Air Force and began a new career with Lockheed Martin Corporation working on the GPS Navigation Satellite program. When Darcy was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2003, she was afraid and scared and feared she wouldnt see our daughters graduate from High School. But with the innumerable sacrifices of women who have gone before her in this journey, she found excellent medical care and treatments that fought the disease and kept it at bay for many years. So with her expanding faith in God and what God has given in talent to the doctors, surgeons, nurses, and medical care providers placed in our lives she gained an enormous amount of strength, courage, and determination to fight and share her strength with other women who needed a little help and guidance with their personal journey. Over the next 10 years, Darcy personally talked with many other women to help them make it through those first few months of fear and come out the other side with their own inner strength, courage, and determination. She was building more fighters to keep them full of life and a living future. Those small successes with other women helped Darcy keep up her strength and fighting spirit as much as the doctors, radiation, and chemo treatments did. Darcy wanted to personally thank the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center for their human touch and personal care for almost 11 years as she bravely fought this horrible disease. Especially noting the fantastic treatment and care given to her by her oncologist, Dr. Daniel Tell, her oncology nurses Teresa and Kris, and all the staff of the RMCC. They made Darcy feel good physically and kept her fighting spirit alive. That is what they also loved about Darcy! Her positive attitude and her fighting spirit. She never let it get her down. Her final wish was to see our youngest daughter graduate from Liberty High School, but that looked grim with her current aggressive liver disease. But through her huge network of friends and the heartfelt understanding of Academy School District 20 administration, they were able to celebrate Samantha's graduation on Valentine's Day 2014, which was also Darcy's Birthday she turned 52. The school board came to our home along with the Liberty High School Principal, her class counselor, her advisor, and her favorite teacher and they held a full graduation ceremony. Darcy was able to attend Samantha's High School graduation early! Her dream came true - THANK YOU Academy School District 20. Only 5 days later, the liver disease took her from us and she is now with the Lord. We thank God for the extra 11 years he gave us with Darcy and all the hearts she has touched and helped along the way as she shared her strength and survival skills with others. She is survived by her loving husband Sam Bryant, daughters Sarah, Stephanie, and Samantha, her mother Darlene Rue, and two brothers Brian Rue and Scott Rue. Darcys final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interned with military honors. At Darcys request, in lieu of flowers, please consider a generous donation to the Susan G. Komen "For the Cure" South Eastern Colorado, so other women can spend more time with their loved ones.
