Darlene Barbara Hultgren, 71 of Mahtowa died March 13, 2014 in Essentia Health St. Marys Medical Center in Duluth. She was born October 1, 1942 in Cloquet to Ira and Bernice Paulson. Darlene graduated from Cloquet High School in 1960. She joined the Navy, serving until 1962. On August 29, 1964 she married Stanley Hultgren in Cloquet. After their marriage they made their home in Mahtowa. During the 1980s Darlene worked at TJs Country Store in Mahtowa. Then in 1988 she joined Stanley in Shoreview where she managed an apartment complex. After Stanleys retirement in 2000, they moved back to Mahtowa. Darlene was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Barnum American Legion. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, and gardening. Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Ira and daughter, Alana Privette. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Stanley; daughters, Benita Ellison of Superior, Corina (Richard) Newman of Barnum, and Erica (Chad) Thompson of Duluth; son, Darren (Dawn) Hultgren of Barnum; her mother, Bernice Paulson of Cloquet; sister, Belinda (Steve) Hudler of Grand Marais; grandchildren, Jeremy (Beth), Andy, Chris, and Nathan Privette, Courtney and Cami Ellison, Katrina, Jessica, Justin and Brandon Newman, Jordan, Lauren, Garret, and Jacob Hultgren, Alex, Zach, and Nick Thompson. A Mass of Christian Burialwas held onMonday, March 17th in St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton. Military Honorswere accorded by the Carlton VFW. A time of lunch and fellowshipfollowed in the church social hall. Burial will be in Sandy Lake Cemetery in the spring.
