Darrel Dean Shindle
May 16th, 1933 - May 27th, 2018
Darrel Dean Shindle, 85, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 at St. Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho due to complications of Lewy Body Dementia. Darrel was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 16th, 1933 to George and Margaret Shindle of Sidney, Nebraska. They then moved to Kimberly, Idaho in the late 1940’s. Darrel graduated from Kimberly High School in 1950. He went on to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Later, he met and married Barbara Felton; together they had two children; a son, Darrel Dean Jr., and a daughter, Rhonda Marie. They divorced in 1957. Darrel was then drafted into the United States Army and returned to Idaho. There he met and married Helen J. Lewis in 1963. They had two daughters; Katrina and Karoline. Darrel continued to work for Union Pacific Railroad from a clerk in Twin Falls and several points in Idaho, to agency operation in Omaha, Nebraska. He retired in 1986; the family moved back to Boise. Darrel is survived by his wife and daughters: Rhonda Elquist, Katrina Shindle, and Karoline Porter; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; two cousins, more like brothers, Pat Shindle of Nampa, and Fred (Kay) Shindle of Lovelock, Nevada. Darrel is preceded in death by his son Darrel Dean Jr. and his parents George and Margaret Shindle. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel located at 3629 E. Ustick Rd. Meridian, Idaho 83646. The interment will follow the service at Cloverdale Cemetery located at 1200 N. Cloverdale Boise, Idaho 83713.
