Darrel Swanfeld

Loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather Darrel William Swanfeld 85, passed away at his Punta Gorda home with his wife by his side on September 9th, 2022. Born in Duluth Minnesota November 12th, 1936; He graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1960. Darrel was a federal employee for 35 years, including 25 years as a revenue officer for the IRS. He participated on the board of the Federal Employees Credit union in Duluth for 25 years. He also served in the Air National Guard in Duluth Minnesota for 6 years. Married to Loudella (Johnson) for 61 years, they lived in Superior Wisconsin where they were active members of Christ Lutheran Church. Retiring to Punta Gorda Florida in 2004, they summered at their beloved cabin on Caribou Lake in Minnesota. Together they were members of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, as well as PGI, Newcomers, Floridians and Seafarers clubs. He was a member of the Ponce de Leon Conquistadors, NARFE, and Elks Lodge 2606. Darrel also enjoyed watching the University of Minnesota Duluth Hockey team play in person or on TV. Throughout their marriage, Darrel and Lou played in several bridge groups, and loved to travel and visit with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Loudella (Johnson) Swanfeld, and daughters Karen (Bradley) Keup, Texas; Kristin (Glen) Marco, California; Amy (John) Sanders, Texas. Grandchildren include Joshua and Jacob Keup, Haley and Rory Marco, Amanda and Megan Sanders. A celebration of life is scheduled for October 29, 2022 3:00pm, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Rd. Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Memorial donations may be made to Harry Chapin Food Bank or Charlotte County Homeless Coalition.
