Darrell Norbert Gillis

Mr. Darrell Norbert Gillis, age 95, a resident of Lakeland, Florida passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at Highlands Lake Center surrounded by family. Mr. Gillis was born June 20, 1928 in Red River, Wisconsin to John and Ethel (Laurent) Gillis. He was a Polk County, Florida resident since 1990 coming from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Darrell retired after 43 years of service from Green Bay Packaging-Kalamazoo Division as a Manager/Plant Superintendent. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winter Haven and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Winter Haven Lodge. Darrell enjoyed golf, football (Packers), fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife – Evelyn Gillis and brother – Leon Gillis. Darrell is survived by his loving family, wife of 25 years – Mary Gillis of Lakeland, Florida; 2 sons – Stuart (Roxanne) Gillis of Mattawan, Michigan and Larry (Lori) Gillis of Zephyrhills, Florida; 2 daughters – Jeanine (Dennis) Assenzo of Greenbay, Wisconsin and Julia (John) Soucie of Lakeland, Florida; brother – Ronald (Alice) Gillis of Casco, Wisconsin and Sharon Swagel of Luxemburg, Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren – Karina, Erin, Erik, Ashley & Jason; 5 great grandchildren – Kerigan, Naomi, Zoe, Isabella & Olivia. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 532 Avenue M NW, Winter Haven with visitation before from 9-10am at the church.
