David Percy Blodget

David Percy Blodget passed away December 30, 2018 in Lacey, Washington. He was born February 21, 1930 to Ruth Venetia (Deeds) Blodget and Rush Maxwell Blodget in Santa Monica, California. Over the years, he lived in California cities (1932-1953, 1956-1959), Golden, Colorado (1953-1956), Missoula, Montana (1969-1979), Vancouver, Washington (1979-1985), Edmonds, Washington (1985-1990), Marysville, Washington (1990-2005), and Lacey, Washington since 2005. David attended University School in Pasadena, California (1942-1946), Glendale Junior College in Glendale, California (1948-1951). He earned an Engineering of Mining degree from the Colorado School of Mines (May 1956), and did post graduate work at USDA. David enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve on March 11, 1947, and was active duty from May 1951 to May 1953 at Los Alamitos, California. In January 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Corporal and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in August 1955, promoted to First Lieutenant in August 1958, to CPT in January 1961, to Major in October 1967, to Lieutenant Colonel in October 1980, and finally to Colonel. He worked as a field engineer in Los Angeles, California (1958-1983); U.S. Forest Service Data Manager in San Francisco, California, Missoula, Montana and Portland Oregon; IRS Data Manager in Seattle, Washington (1982-1987). David married Velma Duke on April 7, 1979 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They were sealed in the LDS Seattle Temple in December 1980. Among David’s hobbies and interests were genealogy, singing, horseback riding, swimming, traveling, and doing humanitarian work. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Blue Key Honor Society, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, SPE Barbershop Quartet Society of America (barbershop president). He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ in August 1977, and became an Elder in August 1978. David was hardworking, kind, sensitive and dedicated to home and family. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Velma Duke Blodget of Lacey; stepdaughter, Suzanne Williams of Sammamish, Washington; stepsons, Steven Capener of Seoul, Korea and Shaun Capener of Castroville, California; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers; son, Mark Blodget; and stepson, Scott Capener. There will be a viewing on Monday, January 7, 2019, 9:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Nisqually Chapel, 9341 4th Ave. NE, Lacey, WA 98516. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, WA, 98042.
