David Burney

David G. Burney, 76, of Englewood passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2011 at Englewood Community Hospital. Born on June 1, 1934 in Putney, Vermont he had been a resident of Englewood for 15 years coming from Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Burney retired from the US Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1975 with 22 years of service, he than became the manager for Air Force Officers Clubs for 20 years. Dave loved his retirement life; loved gardening and his flowers were the prettiest in the park. He favored his orchids and also enjoyed fishing, playing poker and was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos. But, most of all his "Tiny" was his life. David was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Englewood, FL., the Edgewater Club and the American Legion Post 113. Survivors include his wife of 34 years; Eugenia Burney of Englewood: two daughters; Darlene Demonja of Peyton, CO., Lorraine Nigbur of Haikuhi, HI: one son; Mark Burney of Peyton, CO: one step-daughter; Denise Rogers of Colorado Springs, CO: eight sisters, four brothers, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends he left behind in Colorado and all his new friends in Englewood. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 18 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM at the Englewood Community Funeral Home, Inc. 3070 S. McCall Rd. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 10:00 AM at St. Raphael Catholic Church 770 Kilbourne Ave. Englewood. Interment will follow at Sarasota National V.A. Cemetery at 1:00 PM with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in Mr. Burney's name to the Arthritis Foundation 408 12th Street West Bradenton, FL 34205
