David E. Childs of Mayfield, passed away Saturday July 17th. He was a resident of Mayfield and will be greatly missed. A private burial for family will be held at the Mayfield Rural Cemetery, led by Bonnie Orth, Pastor of the Mayfield Presbyterian Church. David was born in Mayfield, New York to Warren and Polly Childs on February 16, 1962. He attend Mayfield Elementary School before moving to Naples, Florida with his family and later finished out his High School years at Principia in St. Louis, Missouri. David moved to Tampa, Florida and for several years worked at Citicorp. Since then he has lived in both Harlingen, Texas and Mayfield. David has always loved being involved with his Church and was a talented pianist, vocalist and conductor. He was involved in the Bell Choir when in Harlingen, but what brought him the most joy was conducting the Christmas and Easter Cantatas at the Mayfield Presbyterian Church. David loved animals, especially dogs. During his final years in Mayfield he ran an active dog sitting business with many repeat customers. David is preceded in death by his parents, Warren Childs and Polly (Proctor) Childs. He is survived by his brother James Childs of The United Arab Emirates, nephews Michael and Steven Childs of Florida, his sister Sheryll Kowalski of Mayfield, niece Sarah VanSlyke of Mayfield and his Aunt Thelma Childs, also of Mayfield. The family wants to express their gratitude to Bonnie Orth and members of the Presbyterian Church for their kindness and support during David’s time in Mayfield.
