Mr. David A. Clarke, age 75, died Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017 at his home in Mayfield. He was born December 17, 1941 in Yonkers, NY, the son of the late John and Muriel Kellard Clarke. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam and later taught school for one year in Harrisville, NY before coming to Mayfield where he taught for 30 years. David loved politics, his tomato garden and his Yankees. He was instrumental in running the Mayfield Youth Baseball League. David was a former member of the Mayfield Fire Dept. and served on the Mayfield Planning Board, the Mayfield Village Board and as Water Commissioner. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Wadsworth Clarke (formerly of Hope, NY); a son, David L. Clarke and his wife Sarah of Guilderland Center; two beautiful grandchildren, James and Sam, who he loved so much. Also surviving are two sisters, Muriel Clarke and June Schnall; two brothers, William Clarke and Richard Clarke; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 7PM, Friday, February 10 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will take place 9:15AM Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 1 Computer Drive South #104, Albany, NY 12205 or to the charity of your choice.
