David H. Dufel
December 18th, 1928 - August 21st, 2024
David H. Dufel, 95, of Wrentham, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at home with family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen E. (Brown) Dufel. He was the loving father of Ronald H. Dufel and his wife, Catherine of Bonita, CA, David H. Dufel Jr. and his wife, Bonnie of Gloversville, NY, Richie H. Dufel of Edinburg, NY, Michael A. Surro, and his wife, Denise of Burrillville, RI, Terri E. Russell and her fiancé, Ken Huber of Plaistow, NH, Joann Surro of Framingham, MA, and Barbara A. Wagner and her husband, Kenneth of Wrentham, MA. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, Rebecca, Michael, Samuel, Jennifer, Sean, Jason, Tracy, David, James, Chet, Ellen, Meghan, Anthony, Josie, and 14 great-grandchildren.
David was born in Amsterdam, NY on December 18, 1928, the son of the late William F. and Dorothy A. (Benton) Dufel, and leaves his sister Ruth Gavin of Johnstown, NY.
David was a resident of Wrentham for the past five months, formerly of Florida for 20 years. He also previously resided in New York, Greater Burrillville, RI, Mendon and Northbridge, MA, and Gorham, Maine where he had built homes in each location.
David had worked for General Motors in Framingham, MA for 28 years until their closing. He was a member of the UAW International Union.
David proudly served 14 years in the United States Army and the Army National Guard attaining the rank of SP5.He enjoyed painting pictures, making puzzles and most of all spending time with family, he will be greatly missed.
Born just before the Great Depression, he valued hard work often working multiple jobs to support his family. He was skilled in fixing everything from a blown head gasket on a car to building and maintaining several houses. He especially enjoyed being outdoors and often went camping, deer hunting and trout fishing in upstate New York. After moving to New England, he took up snowmobiling with friends often riding hundreds of miles through Maine and into Canada. After retiring from General Motors, he moved to Florida and took up the painting of outdoor scenes that he loved and shared with his family. He cared and took care of his family all his days. He will be greatly missed, especially if there is a water leak.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 6th at 11AM at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Visitation from 10AM to 11AM prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the family lot at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
