Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Ladson
David James Felton
April 15th, 1951 - January 7th, 2024
David James Felton “Dave” April 14, 1951 – January 7, 2024 David James Felton, 72, of Summerville, SC passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, with his wife, Barbara, and sons Timothy and Patrick at his side. David was born April 14, 1951, in Brainerd, MN. His early years were spent during summer months in Longville, MN, at his family’s Hunter’s Bay Lodge on Woman Lake. Fall and winter months (Dave’s school year) the family headed south to their Holiday Beach Resort on Longboat Key, FL. David was predeceased by his parents James and Shirley Felton. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Barbara, sons Timothy (Amy) Avon, CO, and Patrick (Sienna) Charleston, SC and 3 grandchildren Finley, Blakely and Kade. He is survived by his sister Jan (Skip) of Sarasota, FL. Dave attended high school at Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA, graduating in 1969. The friends he made there have lasted a life-time. In 1973, he graduated from Georgetown University earning a BA in Business. Following graduation, he began a 42 year career with the Travelers Insurance Company in Casualty and Property Claims. Dave started in Orlando, FL, followed by assignments in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Hartford, and then his final 31 years in the Atlanta office, retiring in 2015. Dave was a true sports enthusiast especially when it came to baseball and golf. Whether it was watching Spring training in Sarasota, the ups and downs of the Atlanta Braves, or watching his two boys play, he always enjoyed a good game of baseball. His love of golf was highlighted each spring when he attended The Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. An annual tradition started by his dad when then young-teen Dave would join him for the annual spring trek to GA. He loved music it always put a smile on his face, so the long drives home or back to school were just fine so long as the 8-track was working. His greatest loves were faith and family. Dave and Barbara started their journey in August 1978 (and the car broke down!). When Tim and Patrick arrived, his world couldn’t be more picture-perfect. A devout Catholic, a fine and honorable son, a loving husband and father. A good and caring friend. An generous and honest man. His funeral Mass will be on Saturday, January 20th, at 10:00 AM at St John the Beloved Catholic Church located at 28 Sumter Ave, Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
