David E. Grabast
January 21st, 1921 - January 11th, 2013
David E. Grabast, 91, of Beaverton passed away on January 11th, 2013. David was born on January 21st 1921 to Joe and Lucy (David) Grabast in Norton Kansas. He graduated from Norton Community High School in 1939 and married his wife, Ethel, in 1941. After they were married, they moved to Wiggins CO, where David worked for Foster Lumbar Company until he was drafted in 1942 and sent to O’Reilley General Hospital in Missouri for training. During World War II, David served as an x-ray technician with the 186th General Army Hospital and was stationed in England. When he was discharged by the Army in April 1946, he returned to CO where he continued to work for the lumber company as manager until taking a job with Boise Cascade, drawing house plans in Greely CO. In 1967 David and his family moved to Oregon, where he went to work for the United States Post Office as a mail carrier in 1968. He worked for the US Postal Service until he retired in 1985. David spent his retirement years traveling and visiting with his wife and friends, gardening, cooking, woodworking in his shop, and making many memories with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and the care he showed for all those around him. David is survived by wife of 71 years, Ethel; son Dave (Maureen) Grabast, and daughter Susan (Denny) Lambert; as well as five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service for David will be held on Saturday January 26th, 2013 at 1:00 at Creekside Village (5430 SW Erickson Ave, Beaverton, OR 97005). Remembrances can be made to Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation supporting Heart & Vascular and/or Hospice Programs.
