Obituary David was born to Winfred Claud Hays and Marilyn Marcella Olney Hays on September 28, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family moved to Des Moines shortly before his birth. He attended school in Des Moines and graduated from North High School in the class of 1971. While attending Open Bible College, David married Debra Jean Kopp on June 1, 1973. To this union were born the twins, Jason and Jennifer. They divorced in April 1978. David had graduated from Open Bible College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral ministries. David married Lisa Paulette Dunn on June 6, 1981 in Des Moines, Iowa. Together, they adopted Justin and Juliet. David has 4 siblings: Beverly Jolliffe, Ron Hays (Mary), Myrna Otis (Roger), and Sandy Bayse (Tim). David has 4 children, Jason Hays (Gretchen), Jennifer Hays, Justin Hays, and Juliet Smith (Chris). His grandchildren are: Jayna, Ava, Haylie, Erik, Keaton, Harriet, Jessica and Violet. David has had many occupations. He was a concrete worker a number of times, a pastor and a district superintendent with Open Bible Standard Churches, Inc., a house contractor in 3 different states, a handyman for two different property management offices, an office manager for a reconstruction company, and last, a janitor for Academy School District 20. Everything he did was to the best of his ability. David was a man of God! He loved God with all his heart. He loved his family with all his heart. He loved his friends with all his heart. David never did anything halfway. He prayed for his family, friends, others, our country, and many different presidents. David enjoyed many activities throughout his life. He was a hunter (rifle/bow) fisherman, camper, jogger, hiker, wrestling dad, husband and grandpa. He went on two trips overseas to help build churches. He enjoyed planting and decorating the yard at his house. He kept a row of roses and would plant new ones every year. He was a great friend! He would text or call people he knew, anytime one of their names popped into his head. He has certain friends he would contact with just a joke if it was one he knew they would like. Last, he loved his wife. When Lisa would go visit with her sisters during the summer, she would come back and he wouldve done something special to the house to improve it and beautify it. He was moving to Florida because he knew she loved it down there. He will be missed.
