David W. Herr

David W. Herr, 56, of Johnstown, passed away after a brief illness at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, New York on December 23rd 2015. Born in Brooklyn, New York on October 5, 1959 he is the son of Loretta Pabst Herr and the late Fredy Herr. David is a graduate of Cherry Valley High School, he then went to be in the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1977 to 1981. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant on July 17th 1981. He obtained an Associate's Degree from FMCC college. He is a retired New York State Correctional Officer, he was employed by the Hill Creek Correctional Facility in Johnstown for 25 years. Currently he was employed by Excel in Johnstown. He married Anita Gazzillo on May 19, 1984, sharing a beautiful union of 31 years. Together they have two children Steven Herr and his wife Fahren of Gloversville and Thomas Herr of Johnstown. He is also survived by siblings, Fred Herr (Amy) of Cherry Valley, Karl Herr (Liz) of Hopewell Junction, Liz Herr of Cooperstown, Corinne Fish (Tim) of Sharon springs, Kathy (Mark) Crandall of Cherry Valley, Phillip (Diane) Herr of Gloversville and Kenny (Marque) Herr of Amsterdam. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. David enjoyed going on cruises with the love of his life Anita. He also enjoyed kayaking, hunting, and camping with his two buddies Monty and Benson. Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 4pm until 7pm at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville NY 12078. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10am at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S Main St, Gloversville, NY 12078. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
