**Obituary for David Eugene Hess** It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of David Eugene Hess, who departed this life on May 19, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona. Born on May 2, 1955, in Euclid, Ohio, David led a life committed to both family and professional excellence. David served the state of Pennsylvania with distinction for 25 years as a hydrogeologist and later as a supervisor at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. His career was marked by a dedication to environmental stewardship and public service. Colleagues remember him as a consummate professional whose contributions significantly advanced the department's mission to protect and restore the environment. David’s passion for geology was not just a profession but a cherished interest, alongside genealogy and philosophy. He had a unique enthusiasm for studying languages and brought joy to those around him with his collection of dad jokes. David’s legacy lives on through his loving wife, MaryCatherine (Cocciolone) Hess, and his three devoted children: Christopher Hess, Michael Hess, and Catherine Hess. He is also survived by his sister Judith (Hess) Taylor, and his brother Robert Hess. He joins in eternal rest his father Merle, his mother Carmena (Long) and his brother Richard Hess, with whom he shared many fond memories. His memory will be further cherished by many nieces, nephews, and their children, who all held him in the highest regard. David’s fondness for his family extended to his beloved cats and dogs, with a special place in his heart for his dog, Mika. A private memorial service will be held in Mesa, Arizona, respecting David's wishes and providing an intimate moment for family to honor his life. The loss of David Eugene Hess leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His commitment to his family, his work, and his many interests will be remembered with deep affection and respect. Rest in peace, David. Your spirit and legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know you.

Memorial contributions can be made to help install a park bench and tree at Greenfield Park, one of Dave’s favorite parks.  The last time we were there he struggled with his mobility issues and commented that more benches were needed under the shaded trees.  Contributions can be made to a GoFund Me page: https://gofund.me/67b0c608

. All additional funds will be contributed to the Park Service.
