David Kenworthy
October 13th, 1942 - August 9th, 2024
David H. Kenworthy, 81, of Golden Colorado passed away suddenly Friday, August 9th, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William H. Kenworthy and Dora Mae (Robinson). He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kriebel, and children; daughter Courtney Cohee and husband Brian, Will Kenworthy and wife Kim, son Chris Kenworthy and wife Amie, stepson Sean Cohen and wife Kara. Grandchildren; Ethan, Cole, Drew, Grace and step grandchildren, Melody, Lake and Gilmour. Preceding Dave in death are; stepdad Harley Jarvis Sr., brothers, Harley Jarvis and Kim Jarvis, sister in-law Danette Jarvis.
David graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, where he played football and was on the 1964 Camellia Bowl Bobcat winning team. Dave and the Big Sky Championship Bobcat team were inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2008. David studied communications and broadcasting in college. His accomplished and widespread 30-year career in broadcast news for ABC and CBS affiliates throughout the United States included collaborating with Presidents Ford and Reagan, David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey, Jacques Cousteau, and Frank Oz.
In the mid-70’s, David’s adventurous spirit continued as he joined a four-man bobsled team and raced at Lake Placid.
After retiring from broadcasting, he became involved with the newly established gambling scene in Central City, Colorado, and managed the historic Teller House. During that time, he became involved with the Central City Opera Company and worked in various capacities for them, culminating in managing the restaurant for the Opera patrons for the summer.
Dave was an avid skier and fisherman and enjoyed all of the outdoor activities Colorado had to offer. David was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to all who met him. He will be greatly missed.
