David "Dave" P. Martuscello
February 12th, 1964 - April 17th, 2015
Mr. David "Dave" P. Martuscello, 51, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away suddenly on Friday April 17th, 2015 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Born in Dover, NH on February 12, 1964, he was the son of Daniel G. and Kathleen (Sheila) Leahy Martuscello. He was a resident of Amsterdam for most of his life and was a 1982 graduate of the former Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam. He went on to attend Norwich University and Oswego State College and then went on to pursue a career as a barber. He graduated from Europa School of Cosmetology, which allowed him to follow in his father's footsteps. Dave was a licensed barber and part owner/manager of several area hair salons. While growing up, he was involved in various sports. He played Little Giants Football and Wee Men Baseball. Later, he played football for Bishop Scully High School, as well as played softball in the Amsterdam Recreation Softball League. Dave was a very loving and compassionate person, who was willing to help anyone who asked, and even those who didn't. His bright smile and loud laugh was infectious and always brought a smile to everyone around him. He loved vacationing with his family in Wells Beach, ME and spending time with his many nieces and nephews. Dave loved watching sports, and enjoyed going to the Saratoga Race Course with his many friends he acquired throughout his life. He is survived by his loving parents, Daniel G. and Sheila Martuscello of Amsterdam. Dear brothers, Daniel Martuscello of Hagaman, NY, Michael (Cindy) Martuscello of Amsterdam, NY and Kevin (Terri) Martuscello of Saratoga, NY; dear sisters Michele (Michael) Murphy of Saratoga, NY and Katie (Tony) DeRosa of Amsterdam. Aunts and Uncles, Rev. Victor "Vic" Polito, Richard (Lorraine) Martuscello, Joseph (Irene) Martuscello, Theresa Cranker, Bob (Mary) Leahy, Bill (Audrey) Leahy, and Maureen Gagnon. Cherished nieces and nephews, Dulce, Lucas, Alex, and Justine Martuscello, Michael Jr., Marisa, and Claire Martuscello, Ryan, Dylan, Taylor, Emily, and Nicole (Godchild) Murphy, Kara, Nicholas, Joey, and Vincent Martuscello, and Gianna (Godchild), Francesa, Anthony, and Sophia DeRosa. Many cousins also survive. Dave was predeceased by his grandparents, Vito and Antoinette Martuscello and John and Marie Leahy. He was also predeceased by his Aunt, Mackie Colangelo, Uncle, Bill Cranker, Uncle, Jack Leahy, Uncle, Larry Gagnon, cousins, Kevin Gagnon, Jeff Poole and Matthew Martuscello. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 24, 2015 at 11:00A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main St. Amsterdam with David's uncle Father Victor Polito and Father Robert DeMartinis concelebrating . Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday April 23, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue , Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605 and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
