David Rodrigues Mendez

David Rodrigues Mendez, born December 30, 1952 in Lemoore, CA to Maria and Santos Mendez, entered into rest March 9, 2022 in Santa Cruz, CA. Dave moved to his forever home of Santa Cruz in Junior High. He was befriended and involved in the community from the moment he arrived, whether it was playing ball or coaching. He was a star athlete in High School. He continued his athletic adventures on the golf course, softball fields and any available pool table. He coached everything from baseball to hockey for his kids and grandkids. He was an avid fan of all sports – professional to his grandkids. Following every game, he could. Beside his devotion to his family was his unending dedication to hard work. He ran his own roofing business until his passing, teaching his son & grandkids, how to roof right. Papa David is survived by his son DJ (David Jason) (Crisha) Mendez. His grandchildren, Kiley (Santino) Mendez, Taylor (Marlin) Mendez-Eastridge, Hunter Mendez, Colton Mendez, Layla Rose, Julieanne Voltz and his great grandchildren Gage & Malia Mendez and Maverick & Mitchell Brugioni. He is also survived by his siblings, Santos (Trini) Mendez, Gabino (Angie) Mendez, Frank Mendez, John (Julie) Mendez, Ramiro “Mido” Mendez and Irene (Tom) Plowman. Along with an enormous amount of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many who were honorary family. Let us not forget the great friends whom impacted his life and we are sure he impacted yours. He was proceeded in death by his adored daughter Victoria Rose Mendez, his brother Jesse, and his Parents. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz beginning at 12:00 pm. Come join us to share our smiles, memories and a bite to eat.
