David Mueller
June 14th, 1951 - July 26th, 2011
David Lee Mueller Mr. Mueller, 60, of Charlotte, NC died July 26, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center with his loving family at his bedside. He was the co-owner and founder of Mueller?s Sandwich Company where he was known as having the best hamburger in Charlotte. His goal was to make everything the best. His passion was for food, but more so was his desire to please his customers. He treated each one of his customers as if they were his life-long friends. Dave also loved tennis. He played at the Dilworth tennis courts for years. He worked at Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club, taught at summer camps at Sharon Tennis Club, but his fondest memories were those at Olde Providence Racquet and Swim Club where he was able to play tennis, string and sell racquets, and have the Bridge Café, where there were many delicious burgers consumed. He loved all the staff and patrons at Olde Providence and cherished their friendship. Dave also had a restaurant in Pineville on Main Street in the 1980?s called Skipjacks. He was an accomplished photographer which led him to one of his first jobs at Sears Department Store in the photography department. Later he would branch out to the automotive department. He also worked at Firestone on Park Road in the 1970?s. Dave graduated from Myers Park High School in 1970. He also attended Sedgefield Junior High School and St. Patrick?s Elementary School. He took horticulture classes at CPCC because of his love of gardening. Dave has lived at 1016 Ideal Way since 1962 after running home from school and telling his parents that he found a wonderful house for the family and they agreed. He loved Halloween and for the past six years he would pass out hot dogs at his residence to all the trick or treaters. The first year he only passed out about 60 hot dogs, but last year he had given out over 550 hot dogs and only stopped then because he ran out. It was not only young kids that came, but kids of all ages who enjoyed this tradition. He became an Urban Legend in the neighborhood. Dave was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 14, 1951, to loving parents, William T. Mueller, Jr. and Catherine Mary O?Hanlon Mueller. He has now joined them in a greater place. He is survived by his siblings, William Thomas Mueller, III (Tom), Martin Charles Mueller (Marty), and Margaret Mary Mueller (Margie) all of Charlotte. He also leaves behind his nieces, Megan Crawford and her husband James, of Gastonia and Maureen Mueller and her children, Nicolette Fisher and Devin Henry Mueller of Charlotte. The family would like to thank all of our friends and customers for giving Dave and us the much needed support during his illness. Without them we would have been at a loss. The family would also like to thank the Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit at Carolinas Medical Center for giving Margie strength in these trying days. We also thank the entire medical team at Carolinas Medical Center for all the care and compassion given to Dave. A high five to Dr. Cremaldi, Dave?s Radiation Oncologist for being there for him with his sweet and energetic personality. He made going to radiation therapy a treat instead of a treatment. Thanks also goes to Frank and Janet Thies and family for helping Dave with his business. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 AM, Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, 1621 Dilworth Road East, Charlotte, NC 28203 with Father Rick DeClue, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, July 30, 2011 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM and again Sunday, July 31, 2011 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. There will be a Rosary service on Sunday at 4:00 PM in the funeral home.

The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
