Dr. David Newsome, 68, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011. He was born in Winston Salem, NC and moved to St. Petersburg in 2006 from New Orleans, LA, where he owned the Retinal Institute of LA. He also was the founder of the Meals On Wheels program in New Orleans. He was an Ophthalmologist and owner of the Family Eye Center, St. Petersburg. He is survived by 2 daughters, Torrey Elizabeth C. Newsome of St. Petersburg, FL, Danielle M. Newsome of New Orleans, LA; 1 sister, Phyllis N. Jenkins of East Bend, NC, and his long time companion Dwight Thaggard. He was predeceased by his parents, Annie S. and Walter Durward Newsome. He really loved nature and wildlife and had a special bond with his pets. Memorial Service: 1:30 P.M. Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home 4100-16th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL.
