David Jack Pedersen
April 3rd, 2017
David Jack Pedersen David Jack Pedersen was born March 18, 1937 in Salem to Jack and Ruth Stokes Pedersen. After a long battle with chronic lung disease, Dave passed away March 19, 2017, the day after he proudly celebrated his 80th birthday. From the early age of 8, until just prior to his passing, Dave enjoyed weekends at his family home in Yachats, Oregon. It was there he fell in love with the ocean, fishing, crabbing, whale watching and simply watching the ever-changing waves and magnificent sunsets. After growing up in Salem, Dave attended Oregon State University, where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science. He served in the Oregon Air National Guard as a Staff Sargent from 1961 through 1966. Following graduation from OSU, Dave married Lucetta Ann Mullen. Together they welcomed two children, Laura and John. Dave lost Lucetta to cancer in 1996. After several years in the State of Oregon’s Executive Branch, Dave moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning. In 1984 Dave opened a consulting company, David J. Pedersen & Associates, specializing in land use planning. With offices in Eugene and Portland his work is reflected throughout Oregon. He retired in 2005. Dave loved getting involved and supporting his community. He is a Past President of the Board of Directors of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, Eugene Downtown Rotary and Eugene Executives Association. Though his professional business, he helped support projects for the Relief Nursery, The Child Center and The Boys Club of America, to name just a few. In April 1999, he married Cindy Puls in Sydney, Australia. Together they shared a passion for entertaining friends, jazz, traveling, scuba diving, crabbing, fishing, and playing bridge. Dave also had a passion for cars – very fast cars. He loved cigars, flying and his Oregon Ducks! He is preceded in death by his first wife Lucetta Mullen Pedersen, parents Jack and Ruth Pedersen, and two brothers, Art and Phil Eddy. Dave is survived by his wife Cindy Puls Pedersen; son John, of Portland, Oregon; daughter Laura and son-in-law Todd Bauch, also of Portland, Oregon; mother –in-law Susan Puls (Omaha) brothers- and sister-in-law Jim and Lynnette Puls (Omaha) and Mark Rowlette (Omaha); five nephews: Benjamin, Daniel, Xavier, Isaac, and Ian Puls (Omaha); and his beloved adopted-grandchildren, Allie Rogers and Jackson Ryan. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to The Child Center, a mental health facility for children, 3995 Marcola Road, Springfield, OR 97477. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.Dave’s cremated remains will be placed in the sea in his beloved Yachats, Oregon. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
