David Leroy Porter of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away peacefully with the love of his life, Lori Angel, by his side on October 28, 2023, at the age of 62. David’s vibrant and adventurous life was cut short by an unexpected cancer diagnosis just two years and nine months earlier. He put up an amazing fight with so much grace and strength making the most of every moment he shared with those he loved. David was born at the San Diego Naval Base in California on September 14, 1961 to John Howard Porter and Credola May Gruber Porter. David grew up in the Thunder Hills community of Oceanside, California where he was the oldest of four kids raised by a single mother. David attended Alta Vista High School where he graduated early to join the US Army. He served three years in the US Army which brought him to Colorado Springs. After the military, David worked for the City of Colorado Springs for 28 years as a caretaker in Old Colorado City. Upon retiring from the City, he operated DLP Express Services. David raised two beautiful daughters Stephanie and Tabitha. Together they have many wonderful memories down on the ranch and four-wheeling. He supported them in all their new adventures throughout their lives. The Great Outdoors were always an adventure whether it was camping, fishing, geocaching or 4-wheeling. David thrived in life and loved adventure. On any given day, you would find him rock crawling, 4-wheeling, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, mountain climbing and of course geocaching. The highlight of his adventurous life began when he met Lori Angel in 2010. From that point on, the two were inseparable. Apart from working together, they enjoyed constant adventures including geocaching, traveling in their converted van and playing card games with family and friends. They created a combined family including children Stephanie, Tabitha, Jennifer and Benjamin and grandchildren Michael, Zachary, Colton, Jack, Henry, Josh and Hailey. David is proceeded in death by his father John Howard Porter on September 17, 2009. He is survived by his loving soulmate Lori Angel of Colorado Springs, CO, his daughters Stephanie (Ben) Polasky of Goshen, IN, Tabitha (Sam) Jones of Onamia, MN, mother Credola Boatwright of Vista, CA, siblings RanDair (Roberta) Porter of Redmond, WA, Amy LaNae (Richard) Redepenning of Winona, MN, Dennis (Kathy) Porter of Vista, CA, Rick Porter and Susan Porter (Chester) Pozanc of Winona, MN and Rex Boatwright of Salem, OR and seven grandchildren. David is also survived by a bonus mom Sue Luttrell, bonus daughter Jennifer (Timothy) Pietraallo and bonus son Benjamin (Lori) Angel and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers who loved him. He will be greatly missed. Memorial will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 @ 1:00pm. Academy Christian Church 1635 Old Ranch Road Colorado Springs, CO 80908.
