David K. Robertson
January 27th, 1935 - July 13th, 2015
The family of Dr. David Kenneth Robertson,80, makes known his peaceful passing July 13, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wayne, NJ on January 27, 1935, he moved to Livingston, NJ during World War II and graduated middle school in 1950. Moving to North Caldwell, NJ he graduated Grover Cleveland High School, Caldwell, NJ in 1953. He subsequently graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology and University of Michigan and became employed for 15 years as an aerospace engineer at Kearfott Division, General Precision Inc. specializing in avionics for space, rockets, missiles, and aircraft. He attended graduate school University of California at Berkeley and Rutgers University in NJ receiving an M.S. and PhD. While at Berkeley, he studied the emerging field of environmental studies, which caused him to change career fields. For the next 25 years he became an academic at Montclair State University, division of Mathematics and Science, moving from assistant to associate to full professor and finally to professor emeritus. Early on he initiated masters degree programs in environmental health, environmental management, and environmental science. The environmental management program subsequently became a PhD program too. He had 32 publications prior to retiring in 1995 to Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Olive Robertson. He leaves behind Carole, his wife of 54 years, his son Jeffrey D. Robertson, his daughter Jill K. Richards , her husband Brian Richards, and their three children, grandson Austin and granddaughters Sydney and Madison Richards. Also surviving are his sister Adrienne Humphrey, two nieces Sharon Ivy and Leslie Mason, and a grand niece Shanon Hochman. Throughout his career he enjoyed taking summer vacations with his family, which included cross country camping trips to every state including Alaska, as well as the Jersey shore. In retirement he enjoyed relaxing in summer homes in both Saranac Lake, New York and most recently a home in Ellijay, Georgia.
