David Jackson Sherrils
February 4th, 1944 - August 26th, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Jackson Sherrils, a cherished resident of Byron, Georgia, on August 26, 2024. Born in Andrews, Indiana, on February 4, 1944, David's life was a testament to kindness, humor, and a passion for his varied interests. The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate David's life on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, with Andy Pickens officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the service following at 11:00 AM. David will be laid to rest at Parkway Memorial Gardens immediately after the service.
David was predeceased by his beloved mother, Avery Mae Sherrils and his brother, Francis Sperandeo. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with his surviving family: his devoted partner Debbie Mooneyham, his daughters: Angela (Bill) Hight, Lisa Banks, and Dawn Owens, as well as his grandchildren Kacey (Bruce) Vance, Matthew (Emily) Hight, and Tyler (Melissa) Banks. His great-grandchildren Andrew Vance, Braxton Vance, Aubreigh Hight, and Elliott Hight will always remember him fondly. David is also survived by his siblings Gail Hobbs, Tony Mims, and Maria Sperandeo, along with numerous extended family members and friends who were like family.
David's educational journey included some college, and he held a special place in his heart for coaching girls' softball, passing on his love for sports and teamwork to the next generation. A devoted fan of the Tennessee Vols, David's enthusiasm for sports was infectious. He was well-known for his love of fishing, watching horse shows, and his unique candy cravings, often playfully indulging his "candy fiend" reputation.
David was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for the works of Stephen King. He often spent hours lost in the suspense and intricacies of King’s narratives. This love for the written word was a testament to his inquisitive mind and rich imagination.
Equally captivating for David were the old westerns that filled his evenings with tales of rugged landscapes and enduring heroism. The classic stories of courage, justice, and resilience mirrored the principles by which he lived his own life.
Those who knew David will forever remember his kindness and sense of humor, which brightened the lives of everyone around him. His gentle spirit and cheerful disposition made him beloved by all who crossed paths with him.
David's family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered condolences and support during this difficult time. While he may be gone, his memory and the impact he had on our lives will remain forever.
In David's memory, may we all strive to embody the kindness and humor that he so effortlessly shared with the world.
