Angel Valley Funeral Home & Old Pueblo Crematory
David Eric Spencer
July 21st, 1951 - June 11th, 2023
We're sad to announce that David Eric Spencer passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on June 11th, 2023, at 71 with friends and family by his side. Despite his recent battle with cancer, Dave continued to build close relationships with friends, new and old, and support his family as a caring father and sibling. He is survived by his two sons, Evan and Sean, older brother Jay, and eldest sister Brenda. The outpouring of support since his passing is a testament to his quality as a father, friend, and colleague. On July 21st, 1951, David was born to Richard Roy Spencer and Adele Frances Spencer in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Their family moved to California in 1957, where Dave developed his lifelong love for surfing and the ocean. Dave’s family eventually moved to Tempe, AZ, where he would finish high school. He then attended the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, where he pursued his second lifelong passion: flying. After graduating with a degree in Aviation Management, Dave returned to the Sonoran desert, establishing roots in Tucson and the grocery business before starting a family. Starting as a meat cutter in the deli, Dave progressed in his career, eventually becoming a district manager and earning a Master of Arts in Organizational Management. In tandem with these accomplishments, Dave developed a strong rapport with coworkers and colleagues. He cultivated a supportive leadership style, resulting in friendships that lasted well after he retired. His coworkers frequently share stories about his support, humor, and untiring work ethic. As a father, Dave was consistently caring, supportive, and uplifting to his sons. He coached Evan throughout Little League baseball, taught Sean his first trick on a skateboard, and always encouraged them to pursue their interests. As a family, they frequented the beach in Carlsbad, California, and Canyon Lake just outside Phoenix. He imparted his love for golf, baseball, U of A sports, music, and the ocean. Dave's celebration of life takes place Saturday, June 24th, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Barnfire Mesquite Grill at 8310 N Thornydale Rd, Tucson, AZ 85741. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
