Davie D. McBride
February 15th, 1922 - April 14th, 2018
Davie Darleen McBride died early in the morning on Saturday, April 14. At the time she lived at Garden Square at Westlake. She was born February 15, 1922 to David and Frances (Brown) Dodson in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her father died before she was born. She had a sister, Gussie Mae, born in 1917, and a brother, Giles, born in 1919. She attended Santa Rosa Nursing School in San Antonio, Texas and graduated in 1944 as a Registered Nurse. She served in the United States Army from March 1945 to May 1946 as a Second Lieutenant at Bruns General Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She met her future husband, Frank, on a blind date in Corpus Christi, where he was in flight training in the United States Navy. They were married in December, 1946 and had been married for over 60 years when he died in 2007. Davie and Frank had a daughter, Sheryl, and a son, Paul. As a family in the Navy, they moved many times and lived in Florida, Guam, California, Kansas, Texas, Washington and Hawaii. Davie moved to Greeley from McKinney, Texas in 2011 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jim DeMersseman. She was a loving mother and a caring friend to others. She enjoyed antique stores, gardening, quilting and volunteering at the local hospital. She loved her family. She is survived by her daughter Sheryl (James DeMersseman) of Greeley, CO; her son, Paul (Gail) of Hilo, HI; grandsons Kyle (Denise) McBride of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kevin McBride of Biederitz, Germany; nephew Bernard (Alandra) Dodson of Boerne, TX; Niece Margie (Wayne) Lambert of Robstown, Texas; nephew Jimmy (Barbara) Dodson of Robstown, TX; niece Kay Hemme of San Antonio, TX; nephew Kenneth (Dottie) Hemme of Houston, TX; niece Kris Cormany of Dorris, CA; numerous grand- and great-grand nephews and nieces. She is preceded by her husband, Frank; sister, Gussie; brother, Giles; mother and father; sister-in-law Darlene Barker; niece, Dana Barker; nephew, Giles Lee Dodson; nephew, Bryan Dodson; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Garden Square at Westlake for its great care and many kindnesses, Suncrest Hospice for care offered during the last three months of mom’s life; and Trinity Episcopal Church for being her final church home. Contributions in Davie’s memory can be made to the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, Suncrest Hospice, or a charity of your choice in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Life Celebration Services will be held Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 W. 20th Street. She will be buried with her husband at a later date at the National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Friends may leave condolences at adamsoncares.com.
