"Deak" Deakin
April 12th, 1941 - May 30th, 2018
Obituary Robert "Deak" Deakin passed away May 30, 2018 at the age of 77 after a courageous two year battle with melanoma. Deak is survived by his wife of 52 years, Debbie Deakin , his children, Rob (Amanda) and Lara Lindner, his sisters Bette Lynn Brandes and Nanette Spector (Ira) and three grandchildren, Lauren and Will Deakin and Joseph Lindner, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Deak was preceded in death by his parents, James and Adele (Storms) Deakin Jr. and brother James A. Deakin, III. Deak was born on April 12, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1950 where he grew up and attended the University of New Mexico. It was at UNM that he met his wife to be, Debbie Dickinson. After graduating, Deak began his career in health and life insurance there, married Debbie, and together they had their two children. When opportunity knocked in Fort Collins, Colorado he moved his family there in 1970. Deak contributed his time and effort to many organizations in Fort Collins and the surrounding communities over the years. He was involved in the kids' school PTO, was active in the Overland Sertoma service club, a board member for several insurance and securities organizations, a volunteer firefighter, CSU Ram Club Member and president of his homeowner's association. Deak was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and attending as many of his kids' and grandkids' school events, sporting events and performances as possible. He was an avid fan of the CSU Rams, Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. Deak was a great teller of stories and jokes and a conversationalist. He was always genuinely happy to see and engage with people, quick with a smile and generous to a fault. He was loved by many and will be missed greatly. A Celebration of Life will be held for Deak at a later date. Please consider donations in memory of Deak to Tru Hospice of Greeley.
