Dean Carmichael

Dean Carmichael, age 72 passed away on May 25th at home with his loving family surrounding him. He suffered for a short period with lung cancer but was under hospice care for 3 days. Dean was born on October 9, 1950 in Kewanee, Illinois and was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ruth Carmichael. Dean had two children, Amy Mayo, Wilmington, NC and Joshua Carmichael, Murrells Inlet, SC Dean married Jeanne Newman on August 26, 1972 in Kewanee Illinois and last year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Gatlinburg, TN with their Best Man, Greg Davis and Maid of Honor, Karen DeDecker, along with his children. Dean graduated from Western Illinois University and worked for the Peoria Journal Star newspaper as their computer system analyst. Upon moving to South Carolina in 1987, he was the Communications Director/System Analyst for Waccamaw Pottery in Myrtle Beach. He later started his own business, “Professional Aquariums” and for 20 years placed salt water and fresh water aquariums in businesses along the Grand Strand. Dean moved to Sun City in 2012 and enjoyed playing bocce ball, playing with his two cats, and helping his neighbors as an alternate neighborhood rep. He was a Civil War buff and avid TV watcher. Dean’s favorite charity is St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital A Celebration of Life is set for June 10th from 3 to 5PM.
