Ullrey Memorial Chapel
Deane Edward Knapp
June 29th, 1941 - November 12th, 2014
June 29, 1941 - November 12, 2014 Deane E. Knapp, of Yuba City, CA, passed away at home on November 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy; their sons, Kyle, Ethan and Travis; grandchildren, Brady, Logan, Finn and Lucianne; and his only sister, Diane. Deane was born on June 29, 1941 in Aurora, Illinois. He grew up in Southern California, graduating from Lakewood High School in 1959. After serving in the Air Force for 4 years, followed by 2 years in the reserves, he graduated from Long Beach State with a degree in Geography. He then worked as a City Planner for Los Angeles County, and later became the Planning Director for the City of Los Banos, before moving to Yuba City to continue as a Senior Planner for Sutter County and to raise his newly growing family. He also spent 15 years working at the Sacramento Army Depot. After retiring, he rediscovered his passion for weightlifting and became a prolific competitor in Masters Powerlifting, garnering many medals and a few state records. He was also very active in St. Isidore's Catholic Church, volunteering at the Food Locker and participating in a men's Bible Study Group. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Lector at Mass. He was an avid fan of travel, trivia and simple humor. He explored many parts of the globe as a young man, including a trek through Nepal to the base camp of Mount Everest. He spent a lifetime enriching his mind with numerous facts that only Alex Trebek would appreciate and he had a quiet but clever wit that always kept his family and friends laughing. He also loved watching and coaching soccer, supporting his sons' many athletic and artistic endeavors and even occasionally cooking a delicious seven-bean soup. More than anything, however, Deane will be remembered for his gentle spirit, patience, responsibility and ability to listen, which, combined with his tremendous love for his wife and family, made him a husband, father and friend that will forever be fondly remembered. A Rosary will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 7:00 pm, preceded by a Visitation from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Yuba City on Friday, November 21, 2014, at 10:00 am, followed by a burial service at 2:00 pm at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the Knapp family asks donations be made to The American Heart Association or to A Woman's Friend. -
