FREDERICKSBURG–Deborah “Debbie” Ann Greer, 70, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Debbie was a life-long resident of Surgoinsville, until she moved to Fredericksburg in 2017 to live with her daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law, Richard, and granddaughter, Taylor Delaney. She retired from the Hawkins County Board of Education in 2014 having been a teaching assistant at Surgoinsville Elementary School.
Debbie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ronnie Greer, to whom she was married for 41 years before his passing in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Bob and O’Dell Arnold; father-in-law and mother-in-law, K. D. and Ada Sellers Greer; brother, Terry Joe Arnold; brothers-in-law, Glenn Kimbro, Carl Sandidge, and Kelly Greer; uncle, Jay Christian; aunts, Jo Ann Cox and Lenora Amis; nephew, Christopher Sandidge; and her beloved pets, Bella and Buddy.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Leigh Ellis and husband, Richard; granddaughter, Taylor Delaney (whom she loved dearly); brother, Tracy Arnold and wife, Theresa (who was her roller-coaster and shopping buddy)’; sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Sandidge and Linda Kay Kimbro; brothers-in-law, Gerald Greer and Jim Greer; uncle, John Amis; nephews, Michael Polson and T. J. Arnold; special cousins, Tabby Sattler, and husband, Tommy; Kayla McPeek, and husband Ryan, and Jason Sattler and Holden Sattler (both of whom loved their “Debbie Greer”); several other special nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom are too numerous to name; her beloved Shar-Peis, Tsarina and Angel (aka Cujo J), Jake (from State Farm with the khaki pants and tuxedo-top spitfire cat), and Yasmine (Jazzie), her Eclectus parrot; and all of the special teachers, assistants, and students that touched her life while she worked at Surgoinsville Elementary.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2024, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home Church Hill, 1115 Highway 11W, Church Hill, Tennessee. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. at Armstrong Cemetery (217 Amis Chapel Road, Surgoinsville, TN), with Pastor Kevin Rose officiating. Pallbearers will be Tracy Arnold, Tommy Sattler, Jason Sattler, Holden Sattler, Ryan McPeek, and Rob Agee. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
Jennifer would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Archana Jadhav, Dr. Manan Mehta, Allison St. Cyr, Nick Wintersteiger, Sean Bodin, and Chelsea Snyder, along with the doctors and nurses of Carroll Hospital and Hematology Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg, for the care, compassion, and kindness shown toward my mother over the past four years. Each of you are genuinely appreciated and you will forever hold a special place in my heart for the care provided to my mother.
