Debra Alexander
November 24th, 1955 - October 12th, 2024
Debra Jean Alexander, 68 of Nyssa passed away on October 12, 2024 after a brief illness. Debbie was born November 24, 1955, in Nyssa, Oregon to Harold and Jean Alexander. She was the eldest of four kids. Debbie grew up on the family farm where she grew up hoeing sugar beets, bucking hay, milking cows and driving trucks during harvest season. She went to Nyssa schools and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1974. She started her road to medicine at Northwest Nazarene University where she was a pre-med student. She graduated in 1978 where she met many dear friends that she remained close to over the years. She worked for the Vale BLM fighting fires in the summer to pay for college.
Debbie went on to further her medical career by going to nursing school at OHSU school of nursing. She worked at St Luke’s in Boise and at the Nyssa Hospital as an RN before deciding to go on to graduate school at the University of Washington in Seattle. She started her Nurse Practitioner career working at the Nyssa and Weiser Hospitals before she started an office of her own in Ontario where she practiced until her death.
Debbie loved music and sang in church and played the piano. This brought her a lot of happiness and joy. She was a member of the Nyssa Church of the Nazarene where she attended for the majority of her life. She had a deep faith in God and took great comfort in her faith and love for God. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and patients.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Harold and Jean Alexander her brother John Alexander. She is survived by her sisters Linda Alexander Virginia Beach, VA. Jan (David) Harrell Boise, ID. Her beloved nephews Steffan (Amber)Alexander Virginia Beach, VA Cameron and Carston Harrell Boise, ID. Great nephews Anthony, Brantley and Brody Virginia Beach, VA. Her very dear friend Wil Wineman and his family Christina, Becky, Easton and Larry who she loved dearly.
Viewing will be from 5-7 pm at the Lienkaemper Chapel in Ontario, OR on Friday, October 18, 2024. Services will be on Monday October 21st at 11AM at the Nyssa Church of the Nazarene Nyssa, OR. Interment will be at the Hilltop Cemetery Nyssa, OR.
Donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to Northwest Nazarene University for the Future Nurse Practitioner Profound Needs Scholarship and/or the College of Nursing Building Project. Our story begins in 1907 when the Peterson family, who owned a furniture store in Ontario, helped with funeral arrangements and sold caskets from the store’s basement. Over the years, the business has grown and had a number of owners, partnerships and names.
