Celebrating the Life of Deirdre Winn Niemann

Born April 18th, 1931, to Sadie (Nonnie) and Arthur Winn (Pop Pop) in the District of Columbia who both lived into their early nineties in Baltimore Maryland where we had many fond memories of visiting in our youth.

Deirdre was always positive, upbeat and optimistic and supportive to all those around her, regardless of her circumstances

A tireless doer, she lived by the power of positive thinking, and probably read Mrs. Norman Vincent Peels famous work. Over the years I was reminded often that I was lucky to have her as a mother.

She was a published writer, photographer, realtor, mother of two and lifelong tennis enthusiast - even till the end, where she enjoyed watching the greats Roger Federer, Nadal and new star Carlos Alcaraz bring new excitement to the game. Her sons Christopher and Arthur enjoyed growing up at Longwood cricket club and close friendships with many there including commentator Bud Collins.

After meeting her husband, Fredrick Niemann on the tennis courts of Harvard and getting married there at the chapel in 1957. Fredrick was a scholar and nuclear physicist who helped build the Harvard cyclotron and develop radar systems during WWII.

They lived in Cambridge on Memorial drive where they met lifelong friends Klaus and Vira Biemann and had their first child Arthur Lehr Niemann, now a successful software developer and entrepreneur in California

Then meeting Vern and Onie Woods when they moved to Lexington, Mass in 1967 after the birth of their 2nd son Christopher Frederick Niemann. Lexington was famous for their revolutionary war and re-enactment of the minutemen fighting the British before the “Red Coats” marched on the Concord where they were ultimately defeated. Christopher has formed an accelerator (Interscaler) for health and ecommerce ventures and is a marketing and business developer.

In Cambridge they were socialites forming the Cambridge society of Gastronomes organizing group dinners along with the Boston wine & food society and Boston Mycological society where they emphasized dishes prepared with wild mushrooms.

She formed a public relations firm in the 1960’s and a commercial real estate firm (Niemann Associates) in 1985. All while helping organize local community / town activities & programs. One land deal helped pay off a large burdensome mortgage and relieved major household pressures and earned her well-deserved respect and family relief.

She survived her husband Fred Niemann by 25 years living a joyful carefree life until her final day of June 26th 2024 dying of natural causes with family at the age of 93. After Her husband’s death she reinvented herself to travel the world for a considerable time, traveling in organized groups as well as planning trips as an independent traveler. It was inspiration for us all.

In 2014 she moved to South Carolina to escape horrendous and dangerous New England winters to live with her bother Tony Winn in his waterfront golf resort home in Okatie (SC), and then moved to her own place in Beaufort 15 minutes away and finally down the street to an upscale development.

We are grateful for our safe upbringing, parents, grandparents’ cousins and immediate family

Life’s truly a blessing to enjoy and savor even when things are not all roses.
