Delena "Annie" Saul
February 6th, 1938 - August 6th, 2020
Delena Annie Saul: Born February 6, 1938, in eastern Oklahoma. Annie passed away Thursday, August 6, in Loveland, where she lived with her husband, Don, since 1988. Annie was a one-of-a-kind woman, who brought many talents and much friendship to those who knew her well. She loved the blue skies and red rocks of Colorado, as well as the hills and colors of her first home and of western Arkansas, where she was raised, and which can be seen in the many abstract canvases she painted. She sang semi-pro duet with Don, bringing pro level harmony and strength to their musical efforts. During their lives together, Annie supported Don in his studies and career, working as a school bus driver in Park County, a beautician in Gunnison, a long stretch as dispatcher for the Halliburton oil fields camp in Lamar, when we lived in Granada, and, finally, at her true calling as an Early Child Educator. In Granada, she created Annie's Little Doll House, serving as a much needed school and daycare for parents in her village. Annie and Don moved to Boulder in 1983, where she taught at the CU and Family Housing Children's Center for several years. After moving to Loveland, Annie ran the Loveland United Way daycare for a while, and later taught pre-K children for the St. Vrain district, and pre-K classes at Namaqua Elementary whose students still ask after her years later. Along with that, she became an instructor at Aims and retired satisfied. Put it simply, Annie was a child magnet, teaching with music, love, and patience. Earlier in her life Annie had lost two babies. Perhaps, those losses drove her love and work for young children. Annie birthed five children, three of whom survive. Her oldest child, Robert Ratliff, an electrical engineer, lives and works in Saudi Arabia. His sister Joy Lynn Lanzano, a psychological therapist, lives and works in Boulder, Annie's youngest child, Teresa, currently lives in Ogallala, NE, developing educational programs for different industries. She has five grandchildren: Allie Schneider, Mathew Steele, and Francis Lanzano all of Denver, along with Nikolas and Dillon Ratliff of the USMC, and one great-granddaughter Theia Carson who lives in Denver with her parents. Don remains in Loveland their home. Graveside services will be held at Horn Cemetery in Bailey, Colorado on August 11, 2020 at 2:00pm. For those that are not able to make the graveside services, a Memorial Art Show celebrating Annie’s life and featuring her art work, will be held at 2105 Ponderosa Drive in Loveland, Colorado on August 22, 2020 at 1:30pm.
