Online Obituaries for Lexington, Frankfort, and Versailles KY Del R. Henderson, of Lake Monticello, Virginia, died Sunday, July 26, 2015. He was born on July 19, 1935 in Pipestone, Minnesota. Del was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Sumption Henderson; brother, Blair Henderson and sister, Kathy DeBiaso. His survivors include wife, Joan, of Lake Monticello, Va.; daughter, Michele Henderson and partner Wade McCallum, and son Robin Henderson, all of Louisville, Kent.; son, Stuart Henderson, granddaughter Brandy Quillen Stoeckinger and grandson John McChesney in Lexington, Kent.; grandson Jay Quillen in Lake Worth, Fla.; grandson Mac (Reese) McChesney in New Orleans, La.; sisters Renee (Joey) Herman of Las Vegas, Nev.; Lajoy Primer of Quartz Hill, Calif.; Larmon (Tyson) Goudey in Littleton, Colo.; uncle Roger (Zella) Hinz in Sanford, Maine. Del enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and served aboard the destroyer USS Brown (DD-546) in Korea; he was honorably discharged in 1957. Professionally, Del graduated from the school of Radiology Technology at UCLA in 1960 and began advancing in his career. He was the Technical Director of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle from 1963-1971. He became Administrator of the Radiology Department at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kent. in 1972 retiring in 1994. He earned a Fellowship in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (FASRT) in 1981. He served as President of the Association of University Radiologic Technologists (AURT) from 1969 - 1971. He was an accomplished speaker and gave more than 60 presentations at state, regional and national Radiology meetings. Del was an extraordinary man whose love for his family was paramount. Other important memories and passions included: playing basketball, baseball, football and pole vaulting at Pipestone High School, playing drums in the dance band, the UCLA Bruins and UK Wildcats, the Navy, books on World War II, boating, dancing, music, old cars, home projects and vodka martinis. Funeral Information Burial of ashes will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Lexington, Kent. at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015. A Celebration of Del's life will follow at the Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
