Flahiff Funeral Chapels & Crematory-Caldwell
Delores "Dee" Mae Handly
July 10th, 1943 - December 12th, 2020
Delores “Dee” Mae Ohrt Handly (Copeland) left her temporary home on Earth to be with the Lord, on December 12, 2020. Dee was born in Humeston, Iowa on July 10, 1943 to Leroy and Mildred Ohrt. She was the sixth of eight children. In 1953 the family moved from Iowa to Caldwell, Idaho. She graduated from Notus High School in 1961 and attended Boise Business College. Dee was married to David Nelms, Sr. in 1964 and gave birth to her son, David Nelms, Jr. in 1965. After their divorce she met Carrol Copeland, the love of her life, in Boise, Idaho, and the two were married in August of 1972. The young family moved to Shamrock, TX shortly afterward. Carrol was tragically killed in the line of duty the following January 1. Dee and David moved back to Idaho the following summer. Several decades later and after spoiling her two grandchildren into adulthood, Dee met Carroll W. Handly. The two were married February 15, 2014. Dee was diagnosed with dementia in 2019, and in combination with a few ongoing health conditions, saw a rapid decline in mobility and memory. She was surrounded by her loved ones during her last moments on Earth. Dee is preceded in death by her second husband Carrol Copeland, her parents Leroy and Mildred Ohrt, her brothers Marlin, Raymond, Lavern (Carol), and Byron Ohrt, and her sisters Marlene (Bill) Schafer, and Ramona Ohrt. She is survived by her husband, Carroll Handly, her son David Nelms (Jackie), grandchildren Amy Henson (Nate), Robert Nelms (Lauren), her sister Marcia Hoover, numerous nieces and nephews, and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church on Logan Street in Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Methodist Church Camp Scholarship Fund at GoCamping.org/donate.
