Dena Ann Vogel

October 6th, 1950 - August 2nd, 2024

“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness.”

. A Game of Thrones

   George R.R. Martin

Dena Ann Vogel, 73, of Tualatin OR, left this world suddenly on August 2, 2024. Dena was born to Philip and Margaret Baldacchino on October 6, 1950, in Spangler, PA. Dena grew up in Pennsylvania and New York. While at Clarion State University, Dena met the love of her life, Ron Vogel. Dena married Ron while in school and spent the rest of her life with him. Dena received a master’s degree in psychology from West Virginia University and spent 22 years working for the State of Louisianna, leading a team that supported disabled adult transition from residential living into mainstream housing.

Dena was a compassionate and gracious woman who was first and foremost dedicated to her husband and her family.  Dena truly enjoyed life and her passions included vacationing around the world with Ron, caring for their dogs, reading, crocheting, and the rodeo. Dena loved Christmas and collected personal ornaments for her tree during her travel and excursions with Ron. Dena was an amazing cook and loved to make recipes from all over the world. One of her favorite possessions was her spice rack that Ron gave her several years ago.

Dena is survived by her loving husband Ron, three sisters Lucy, Dorothy, and Margie and her brother Joe. Dena’s kindness and bright smile will be missed by everyone who knew her.

A memorial for Dena will be planned and held in the next few months in Pennsylvania.

Dena will be dearly missed. I will always remember her as a loving and caring aunt, with plenty of funny stories to brighten everyone’s day (the first that comes to mind for me is her story about getting a ticket, with a very unflattering, but badass photo from a red light camera). Especially, my heart goes out to her loving husband Ron, and her siblings - Lucy, Joe, Dorothy, and my mother, Margie. Words cannot describe the grieving you must be going through, and I love you all so much.

This is the other vivid memory I have of Dena is from that same year. She taught me this song: “I Will Follow Him” by Peggy March [Intro] I love him, I love him, I love him And where He goes I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow [Verse 1] I will follow him Follow him, wherever he may go There isn't an ocean too deep A mountain so high it can keep me away [Verse 2] I must follow him Ever since he touched my hand I knew That near him I always must be And nothing can keep him from me He is my destiny [Chorus] I love him, I love him, I love him And where he goes I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow He'll always be my true love, my true love, my true love From now until forever, forever, forever [Verse 1] I will follow him Follow him, wherever he may go There isn't an ocean too deep A mountain so high it can keep, keep me away Away from my love Looking back at it now, this song was so prophetic of Dena’s future love and life with her husband Ron.

Dena, you were amazing in so many, many ways. For as long as I can remember you were there for me: helping, supporting, caring, laughing, …, even crying with me sometimes. You were stoic and pragmatic, while always being there in a gentle & loving way—occasionally you would even add a heaping serving of adventure. One of my favorite memories is the cooking class we took together in Lake Oswego. I miss you mightily, Dena, and I am so very thankful for 72 years we spent together. ❣️🫶❣️🫶❣️🫶❣️🫶❣️

When Mom gave me cute picture of Dena and me Mom said she gave us each penny for being so good. Dena was always a wonderful, caring sister and I will miss her so much.

I have this wonderful early memory of Dena that really shows her compassion. I was 7 and she was 14. I was very upset and crying about something. Dena sat down with me and said we were going to have a “Women to Women Talk “. I don’t remember what else she said, but she made me feel like my feelings were important. I stopped crying and for the first time in my life I felt heard and respected.

“He who controls the spice, controls the universe” - Frank Herbert, DUNE Dena loved her spices. When Ron bought her a spice rack, she spent almost an hour on the phone telling me every about each and every spice.
