January 5th, 1949 - April 1st, 2024
Dennis Dwayne Gass Sr. of Rio Rico, AZ a proud veteran of the US Navy, passed away April 1, 2024. Dennis was born in Streator, IL on January 5, 1949, to Ted and Leah (Price) Gass. He graduated from Streator High School in 1968. He then married the love of his life, Sandra Lee Rathbun on Sept 27, 1968, in Joplin, MO. Dennis served in the US Navy 1969-1973 with three tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Vancouver and USS Blue Ridge. He is survived by his wife Sandra Gass, his three sons Dennis (Connie) Gass of Gifford, IL, Jason Gass of Tucson, AZ, and Todd (Rachel) Gass of Mount Juliet, TN. Four grandchildren Britney (Jason) Johnson, Kelsey (Kelly) Bongiorno, Anthony (Macie) Gass, and Abigail Gass. As well as three great-grandchildren Brady, Evynn, and Ivy Johnson. Also, surviving one brother David Gass, and one sister Becky Oldham. He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Leah, and two sisters Donna and Juanita. Dennis was a Trucker by day and a Jack of All Trades. Known for his attention to detail and ensuring every task was done to perfection. This was noticeable in his love to restore classic cars and building hot rods. He could light up a room with his custom handmade Cholla Lamps. Dennis enjoyed listening to old country classic music. He was a member of the American Legion Post 131 Green Valley, AZ. At this time there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, Condolences may be sent to Sandra Gass 1763 Calle Barbados, Rio Rico, AZ 85648 or donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
